ROGER RUIZ
Roger's
first love of the Saint Bernard goes back to the late 1960's when we acquired
our first Saint from the then Saint Chalet located in Pasadena. We named her
Strawberry and she was the love of the family, consisting of Roger and Myself
along with 3 little daughter's.
We soon learned our Strawberry wasn't intended for the show ring, as suggested by Diane Thrasher. We switched to obedience for a while and Roger liked that but was intrigued by the confirmation end of the show world.
We purchased our first show bitch from Pam and Les Lydick. That's when puppy matches were everywhere and drew entries of 30-50 or more, a great training arena for a young puppy and a new handler. Roger did show from time to time way back then, but he always enjoyed being a spectator at the ring. He loved to visit with all the show people with the same interests.
Our show
bitch produced a male that Roger named Maru's Addison, who went on to do a lot
of major winning. We obtained his American Championship and Gary Ziack
showed him, getting his Mexican Title along with a lot of major wins.
When we traveled in the motor home Roger always felt like we were just gypsies moving from place to place. He loved his motor homes and getting away with the intent of visiting with the rest of the gypsies parked at the show site.
Through the years, even though we became interested in an additional breed, Clumber Spaniel's, he always had a love in his heart for the Saint Bernard. Please remember him with that in mind.
